About Joe
Dad, Business Owner and NYC native whose family owned Tirone's Shoe Store.
My work and life experience has all been achieved here locally. Starting with my family owning the Tirone’s Shoe Store for 62 years, to my education at Pace University where I earned a BBA in Accounting and St John’s University where I earned an MBA in Finance, to all of my community and civic involvement (especially after SuperStorm Sandy), to now being a real estate broker on Beach Street in Staten Island. I feel that my practical approach to decision making and building relationships is what this district needs to get things done.
After my initial run for office in 2014, I needed to shift focus to the civic and private sector to allow time to care for my three daughters, including my youngest daughter, Jaclyn, who was diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and to whom I devoted full-time support. I also was the primary caregiver to my aging father, Joe Tirone Sr. I am proud of my heritage (my father and his brother’s ran Tirone’s Shoe Store 62 years) and it is now in my family’s name that I step forward. I’ve seen my city become unrecognizable and running for this office is honoring my history and another way to protect my daughters and their future.
DISTRICT 23 FOCUS
Crime is a serious issue, especially for the small business owners that often operate out of the many storefronts throughout this unique district. I will vote to repeal Bail Reform. It was a dangerous test that has failed miserably and it is time for the State Legislature to own up to that.
The vast shoreline of both Staten Island and Brooklyn is a unique issue for the 23rd Senate District. Resilience after Hurricane Sandy is very important and I have become an expert in that area by collaborating with many advanced students, scientists and journalists who have amassed studies and have created proposals for implementation.
Ensuring transportation options are affordable between Brooklyn and Staten Island and resolve issues that prevented the Staten Island Ferry from being adequately staffed.
I will support less regulation for businesses, and easing of taxes to stimulate the economy and also eliminate unnecessary fines which creates great distrust for business and building owners that the city and state rely on to keep things going.
